Step into the charming world of Constantin Baciu's Country Life series. Through his delicate and vibrant aquarelle paintings, Baciu captures the essence of rural life in Romania.

Baciu's attention to detail and use of soft, pastel colors create a sense of warmth and coziness that is sure to transport you back to your own childhood memories.
As you browse through his Country Life series, you may find yourself reminiscing about lazy summer days spent in the countryside, or the laughter of family gatherings. These paintings have a way of connecting us to our roots and reminding us of the simple pleasures in life.

Baciu's use of colors and attention to detail play a significant role in evoking feelings of joy and nostalgia in his Country Life series. His choice of soft, pastel colors creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, reminiscent of a peaceful countryside setting. Theme and Symbolism

The aquarelle paintings from Constantin Baciu's "Country Life" series offer a charming, delicate, and easy-going portrayal of rural existence, yet beneath the surface lies a deeper theme of nostalgia and self-reflection. Through evocative imagery and emotive storytelling, Baciu captures moments of introspection and contemplation, inviting viewers to explore the complexities of human experience.

The paintings in the series depict a range of themes that touch upon universal emotions and experiences. The portrayal of elderly figures conveys a sense of wisdom, resilience, and the passage of time, evoking feelings of nostalgia and reflection on the inevitability of aging. The grandma figure symbolizes nurturance, tradition, and the ties that bind generations together, highlighting the importance of family and community in shaping one's identity

Loneliness, depicted against black backgrounds in some of Baciu's paintings, conveys a profound sense of isolation and solitude. The stark contrast of the black backdrop against the solitary figures underscores the theme of loneliness, inviting viewers to contemplate the universal experience of feeling disconnected from others and the search for connection and belonging.

Symbolism

This artwork depicts the vulnerability of the human soul. The four figures are seemingly floating helplessly in the universe,
It is an expressionist artwork concealed as realism, its features are reinforced by the angles and edges of a deconstructed anatomy.
The wheel of fortune and a cross with even sides, a sacral symbol.
In this artwork the wheel of fortune is holding a helpless, tortured human being.
It represents an internal conflict from within, which is seemingly bigger than the whole Universe.

Number 8 is often associated with prosperity and infinity. In literature, the Chinese epic “Journey to the West” features eight immortals, representing eternal life and boundless wisdom. In art, the “Endless Knot” is a recurring symbol in Tibetan Buddhism, signifying the interconnection of all things and the infinite nature of existence.

The Wheel of Fortune represents what we can't control. Life is constantly moving and we must move with it. Instead of enacting your will, open up your mind to the possibilities beyond your will.

"The Adultor" challenges traditional notions of beauty, desire, and human relationships, inviting viewers to reflect on the complexities and contradictions inherent in our own lives. It encourages a deeper exploration of the dynamics between individuals and the interplay of power, vulnerability, and desire.
The central focus of the artwork is a refined-looking man, depicted with delicate and refined features. His presence in the middle of the composition immediately draws the viewer's attention, suggesting a sense of importance and significance.
Flanking the man on either side are two naked women, one facing the viewer and the other depicted from behind. The artist skillfully accentuates their feminine curves, emphasizing their sensuality and allure. The curves of their bodies are rendered with precision and attention to detail, creating a visual contrast against the refined appearance of the man in the center.

The use of nudity in the artwork adds an element of vulnerability and intimacy, inviting viewers to contemplate the complexities of human relationships and desires. The positioning of the women, one facing the viewer and the other from behind, suggests a sense of duality and exploration of different perspectives.
The dark line dividing the composition adds a sense of tension and separation, symbolizing the boundaries and divisions that exist within relationships. It serves as a visual representation of the complexities and contradictions inherent in human connections.

The woman is portrayed reaching out towards the man, her body language and expression conveying a sense of desperation and longing. Despite his departure, she clings to the hope of reconciliation, symbolized by her outstretched arm. The man, on the other hand, is depicted with a sense of detachment and distance, his body turned away from the woman, suggesting a desire to move on.
The title "Incest" adds another layer of complexity to the artwork, alluding to the forbidden and taboo nature of their relationship. This reference to the ancient story of Adam and Eve further deepens the narrative, suggesting a perpetual cycle of desire, temptation, and separation.

This provocative graphic art piece presents a striking visual representation of a complex and emotionally charged relationship. The artwork features a woman drawn with delicate white lines against a stark black background, while a man is depicted with bold black lines against a contrasting white background. The stark contrast between the two figures immediately captures the viewer's attention, emphasizing the dichotomy between them.
This graphic art piece challenges traditional notions of love, desire, and human relationships, inviting viewers to reflect on the complexities and contradictions inherent in our own lives.

The endless black tunnel from which the woman emerges symbolizes the unknown and the depths of the subconscious. It represents a portal between different dimensions, where the boundaries of reality are blurred. The merging of parallel universes is depicted through the distortion and fragmentation of the woman's figure, as if multiple versions of herself are converging into one.

Symbolism

This captivating graphic art piece transports viewers into a surreal and dreamlike realm, where parallel universes merge and reality becomes distorted. The focal point of the artwork is a giant naked woman, emerging from an endless black tunnel. Her towering presence commands attention, evoking a sense of power and mystery.
The woman's form is depicted with a blend of realism and abstraction, creating a mesmerizing visual effect. Her body appears elongated and stretched, as if defying the laws of physics. The artist's use of vibrant and contrasting colors adds to the otherworldly atmosphere, with hues of blues, purples, and pinks swirling and merging together.

Biblical theme, crown of thorns, orthodox monks.
A sacral shape similar to an  icosahedron, exuding a very charged, almost stiffling atmosphere.
Putting all doctrines (mathematical, medical, ecclesiastical) together, the two clerks are contemplating the world.

The Romans soldiers used a crown of thorns, part of the original curse, and placed it on the head of Jesus who would offer atonement, salvation, and hope for the entire world. Truly, this was a powerful symbol of the sin and death that Jesus was about to deliver the world from through his death and resurrection.

Voyeurism: the activity of getting pleasure from secretly watching other people in sexual situations or, more generally, from watching other people's private lives
In this case we can see a realistically represented woman, being watched by two, slightly blurred out human shapes. Even though she is being watched, the womans posture seems proud and powerfull.

Stripes have had complex and sometimes contradictory meanings throughout Western history — think the American flag vs. prison uniforms — but in modern visual arts, stripes are less complicated. They're all about rhythm, division and unity. In this case, they are reinforcing the powerful posture of the woman.

Theme and Symbolism

"The Flower of Life symbol consists of many contiguous circles. The starting point is the circle in the middle, which is surrounded by six more circles. In the center of the circle is a simple geometric shape, which suggests that originally all life arose from a single source. The characteristic circular pattern of the Classic Flower of Life symbol consists of 19 circles, twelve semicircles and 18 sixth circles. The repeated pattern decoration of the flower of life can be continued ad infinitum. Although the Flower of Life is a self-contained form, it is infinitely expandable and therefore represents the infinite flow of life. The painting was inspired by my encounter with this symbol, as well as a moment spent in nature, when I was lying in the grass among yellow flowers and looking up at the sky from below. From this angle, I got the feeling that the world and the flowers were smiling at me."  Melinda

Theme & Symbolism

As part of the "Soul Reflecting Surrealism Series," the artwork "Leafs Climbing Towards the Sky" (55 x 86 cm) captures the vibrant life and movement within nature. Leaves reach skyward, seeking sunlight, while a pair of hand-shaped leaves bend towards the water, seemingly thirsty and longing for warmth. The cloud and its reflection in the water take on the form of a flying figure, emphasizing the interconnectedness and communication that exists in nature. This interplay of endless movement, lightness, and eternal change creates a sense of profound beauty.

The exact meaning, the stairs of fear, can also be interpreted from the title of the picture. So the journey itself is about facing our fears and overcoming them. Also about the quality of fear itself, since our fears are often clouds, illusions, unreal barriers raised by ourselves, this is what the clouds symbolize. Furthermore, the crocodile, as actually terrifying forms, presents the conflict itself, the assumption of our decisions. The rabbit hole symbolizes that if we follow this psychological path, we often find ourselves in a new life situation that we did not expect.

These artworks are just glimpses into my exploration of the surreal and symbolic realm, where nature and human experience intertwine, inviting viewers to reflect, question, and appreciate the wonders that surround us.

In Hungary, along the beautiful Danube River, one can witness the graceful presence of cranes. Upon encountering these magnificent creatures, my curiosity was piqued, prompting me to explore their symbolic significance in various cultures. In Japan, the crane holds a special place among a realm of mystical and sacred creatures, symbolizing both good fortune and longevity. According to Japanese folklore, cranes are said to live for a thousand years, embodying a remarkable lifespan. Often referred to as the "bird of happiness," the crane is believed to carry departed souls to paradise, gracefully transporting them on its wings. Additionally, waves have long been regarded as symbols of the gods of the seas. The powerful and undulating patterns of churning waves represent strength and resilience, reminding us of the mighty forces of nature.

Sri Ramakrishna (master of Swami Vivekánanada) in the XIX. is considered one of the greatest saints of 19th century India. Detailed accounts of his eventful life, his devotion to the Mother of God Káli, his divine experiences, the often seemingly strange happenings of his everyday life, his teachings and his students, are left to us, which are summarized in the book titled "The Divine Swan". Reading the book inspired the creation of the painting. In the painting, in the left corner, you can see a crow on its way down. Due to the dark background and the more relaxed pictorial solutions, this part of the image may seem tired and difficult, while the swan turns towards the light, almost a silhouette of light surrounds its figure, it is about to take off. The two birds are twisted together, created from each other, yet they oppose each other. From this, we can conclude the deeper meaning of the image, i.e. that the crow basically symbolizes a difficult life situation, or pain, which can be released through transformation, and can develop into strength and inspiration in a person's life through interpretation.

In Roman mythology, Fortuna is the personification and goddess of luck, fate, and the contingencies of life (Jupiter's first daughter). The meaning of her name: yield, yield, perhaps a Latinized version of the Etruscan Vortumna, which means a girl who turns every year. The symbol of its unpredictability is the wheel of fortune. In the Middle Ages, the wheel of Fortuna symbolized the capricious rotation of human life, following the ancient topos. This is perhaps a name referring to the cycle of life, which culminated in the medieval proverb Bona Rotae (rotating of fate).

The artist's skillful use of blue shades creates a serene and ethereal atmosphere, immersing viewers in a world of tranquility and contemplation. The fluidity of the girl's movements suggests a sense of grace and freedom, as if she is effortlessly navigating the depths of an underwater realm.

MAJIK is the pure power of manifestation. Manifestation" is Latin "manufestus" meaning "palpable"/“manifest” and "manus" meaning "hand".

MAJIK is not magic. Without external tools, it is the original Co-creation, the directing of energies in a certain way, the management of the energy of intention. If we could see/sense and consciously direct the energies that make up both matter and consciousness itself, we would understand the effect of how the power of the mind manifests and what ultimately materializes.

Every creative process is a Majik - magical activity, where code-info passing through many different consciousness filters arrives in this density translated into the language of matter.
In the large-scale canvases of the triptych, hand-like figurative elements reduced to a minimum, reliefs and spontaneous painterly gestures, linework reflecting a more profound attention to detail, alternate with each other to create the basis for the dynamic principle of the work.
In the painting, the colour palette, dominated by a subdued white-blue-black-grey colour scheme, interspersed with silvery-gold hues, is a reference to this particular mystical event, which is the "Majik" itself.

What is the nature of reality? Are we the dreamers or are we being dreamed?
"We can come close to “Waking Up” if we dream that we are dreaming" (Novalis, German poet)
The Great Awakening is an insight into illusion and reality and their conditionality, where there is no "more real reality", since our access to "reality" is always mediated only through our experiences.
Part of the paradox is the question of how we anchor our consciousness to an identity. If we contemplate our waking dreams, once we start "contemplating" we are no longer fully present.
The dream experience described in the anecdote of Zhuangzi and the butterfly is a sense of self-awareness and two-self. It is a symbolic parallel to the dichotomy of life-death or waking-dream, or the dichotomy of any segmented state in a series of transformations. In other words, the anecdote symbolizes the tension between self and ego, between the physical and the spiritual soul, while the butterfly symbol itself represents, in a broader sense, the order of nature and the necessary "transformation".
The relief-like layers and the contrasting translucent surfaces represent a contrast between physical reality and dream, while the composition of the pictorial elements suggests a dream within a dream, a meaning reinforced by the deliberately fairy-tale-like representation and the spatiality of the 'wings' of the screen character itself.

In the Keylontic sciences, the representation of the 'sacred butterfly' represents the open circulation of energy, of frequency, from the higher dimensions to the lower dimensions and back again. There is a great deal of interconnectedness here, across dimensional levels, with other structural levels and ultimately with Source and the conscious self identity.

In the dynamic world of international art, a new form of figurality emerges, blending painting techniques, dimensions, and social criticism. Artists like Oli Epp, Sarah Slappey, Emma Stern, and Austin Lee, whom I closely follow, excel in this surreal-abstract fusion. While their works often feature provocative elements such as artificial nails and exaggerated body parts, they serve as reflections of our times and convey a sense of internal moral order. As our world increasingly embraces avatars over physical presence, it becomes crucial for art to explore human consciousness and existence.

"One of my recent creations, originally a diptych titled "Inward" and "Outward," holds a striking resemblance to Jeff Koons' iconic balloon dog. Through its box-like arrangement and the grid illusion in the background, the "Outward" piece critiques kitsch culture while humorously and distortedly portraying the workings of our superficial society and consumer market."  Melinda

This painting was inspired by an eosin-glazed ceramic, which piqued the artist's interest in exploring the possibilities of replicating the eosin effect using paints. Additionally, the artist was intrigued by the surreal and mystical atmosphere created by this effect. In the original statue, a girl is depicted drawing water. However, in the artwork, both the girl and the water share the same gender due to the colors used. This symbolism allows viewers to easily associate the act of immersing one's feelings and love into the world, or drawing inspiration and strength from within their own soul.

The saying, "When one door closes, another one opens" by Alexander Graham Bell, resonates strongly in this creative journey of this painting. Alongside a sculptural female silhouette, the artist visually expresses this theme through the presence of black and white doors, symbolizing the transformative nature of opportunities.

While technical experimentation played a significant role in the artist's previous series, the focus has shifted. The primary goal now is to convey a message and depict an abstract concept. This evolution brings forth a deliberate approach, where spontaneity and chance take a backseat to the intentional creation of meaning.

In this remarkable artwork, Melinda invites viewers to contemplate the endless possibilities that lie beyond closed doors. Through the interplay of symbolism and deliberate execution, the painting speaks volumes about the transformative power of embracing new opportunities. Dan Badea's painting "Dialogue" is a captivating piece filled with rich symbolism. The presence of two characters, a female with a large speaker at her mouth and a male with a fish at his ear, immediately draws the viewer's attention. The juxtaposition of these objects suggests a contrast in communication styles or perhaps a struggle to be heard or understood.

In Mircia Dumitrescu's aquarelle painting featuring a clown in green shades with his arm outstretched against a deep bluish background, the clown holds significant symbolism. Traditionally, clowns are associated with entertainment, humor, and performance. However, in this particular painting, the clown takes on a deeper and more introspective meaning.

The clown's presence in the painting may symbolize the complexities and contradictions of human nature. Clowns are often seen as figures who hide their true emotions behind a mask of exaggerated joy and laughter. The clown's green attire, representing growth and renewal, could suggest that beneath the facade of performance lies a journey of self-discovery and transformation.

Additionally, the outstretched arm of the clown, as if inviting the viewer to engage or reflect, may symbolize vulnerability and openness. The clown's gesture could be interpreted as a call to look beyond appearances and delve into deeper emotions and thoughts within oneself.

Overall, the significance of the clown in Mircia Dumitrescu's painting lies in its ability to evoke introspection, self-reflection, and a deeper exploration of the complexities of human experience.

Marin Sorescu
Untitled painting

" Marin Sorescu (1936-96) was a cheerfully melancholic comic genius, and one of the most original voices in Romanian literature. His mischievous poetry and satirical plays earned him great popularity during the Communist era. While his witty, ironic parables were not directly critical of the régime, Romanians used to a culture of double-speak could read other meanings in his playful mockery of the human condition. But later – like a hapless character from one of his absurdist dramas – the peasant-born people’s poet was made Minister of Culture, in Ion Iliescu’s post-Ceauçescu government."

On the surfaces of the paintings "Twenty-three and a Half", the landscapes with their surreal atmosphere, the shapes suggesting dynamic movement and the reliefs in relief, which give the illusion of light and darkness, suggest the relative nature of things "near" and "far" respectively.
Coded visions translated into the language of matter create unusual, seemingly new "fields of reality".

Ultimately, what is "important", what is significant and what is insignificant, what is micro and what is macro, is determined only by the person who focuses.
There is a web of connections between invisible events and visible, measurable phenomena that we cannot see and therefore cannot measure - so our choice is ultimately always the same: to ignore 'information' coming through intuitive channels in favour of what we can see and measure.
Forgetting that the conditions of our existence are in fact created by invisible larger conditions... Whether it be the Earth as a planetary body ... ( 23.5 degrees is exactly the tilt of the Earth's axis... )

"Dreams of an AI" is a series of three paintings created between June 2023 and 2024, exploring the psychological concept of the "uncanny valley" - the uneasy feeling elicited by objects that closely resemble humans but fall short, sparking a mix of sympathy, disgust, and fear.
This phenomenon extends beyond humanoid objects to all visual realms, including those generated by AI. Through realistic color contrasts and shadow play, my paintings offer a sense of comfort akin to our familiar world. However, juxtaposed sharp contrasts, soft spots, and unrecognizable surfaces create an eerie, unsettling atmosphere that prompts viewers to interpret and explore further.
The motif of games in my work holds strong emotional significance, as they mimic reality but exist on the uncanny curve. Humanoid features in these games trigger a mix of affection and "cute aggression," where our desire to care can unexpectedly turn into aggression. By evoking such intense reactions, cuteness is a common tool in media to elicit responses, though the long-term effects are still unknown.
Through this series, I aim to provoke a lasting impression in viewers, igniting internal reflection and leaving a memorable impact.

Theme & Symbolism

"Shining" is a series that I began in January 2024, using spray paint and pastel chalk. The artworks in this collection are created in a serene and mesmerizing style. Objects seem to float in space, with surfaces having a subtle plasticity that allows the focus to shift to the interplay of colors and shapes.

The deliberate arrangement of colored spots and the flowing shapes guide the viewer's gaze, inviting them to explore a unique visual realm within the artwork.

"Deleted Files of Childhood" is a series that began in March 2024, with some pieces currently in progress. These artworks delve into the impact of traumatic childhood memories on our brain structure, even if we cannot consciously recall them.
The series serves as a metaphor for how just the act of viewing these paintings can create new connections in the brain, sparking subtle but significant changes. The settings depict children's rooms with an eerie atmosphere, drawing inspiration from the unsettling "Backrooms" theory explored in various art videos. These videos present infinite, slightly different corridors and rooms, each evoking a distinct mood.
Through figures leaping out of planes, unidentifiable objects, and disorienting lights and shadows, the paintings challenge viewers to question the space and location depicted. The aim is to provoke initial confusion and inspire a deeper exploration of the forms and the enigmatic spaces portrayed. By encouraging internal interpretation and reflection, the series prompts viewers to confront their own unsettling and chaotic inner memories.

Theme and Symbolism

Anna’s works were all inspired by natural forms. However, her aim was not to enlarge faithfully, but to evoke, amplify and further shade the thought contents and associations that the forms carry.

“For these works, I took as a basis the principle of organizing the funnel forms of the clitocybe mushrooms, their shape and colonies. Here, playing with the "found" form is still exciting, without any particular content. In the beginning, I worked with ephemeral materials (cardboard and textiles), then with cast metals (bronze, aluminum). I was most interested in two aspects of these small sculptures; on the one hand, precise funnels, their regular joining possibilities, and on the other hand, the assembly of softer, deformable elements and their effect on each other. In the former case, more constructive, geometric compositions were created, and from the deformed funnels, much more resolved and organic works were born. However, in most works, these two approaches are mixed, from certain points of view, soft forms dominate, but regular edges and axes stand out when going around the plastics.”

“In these works, seeds and fruits were the starting point, but here I was much more interested in emphasizing the intellectual content. The two forms only remind us of the image of natural forms. Looking into the opening cut in the bodies of the sculptures, the viewer can see salt and ash, which evoke the thoughts of life and death and infertility.”

"Membraneverse" is the title of one of my series, where the concept of a membrane represents an enclosure or limitation, drawing from its biological significance. In my artistic journey, I often find myself grappling with form, occasionally encountering obstacles or "membranes" that create barriers between my creations and me. These barriers, akin to blocks, are surprisingly relatable in the realm of art reception and psychology, as we all face our own internal barriers."

Just as biological membranes are crucial for cellular life, shaping the internal composition of cells, the imagery in Membraneverse functions similarly in the art world. Amorphous shapes enclosed within delimited boundaries float as distinct entities within the artwork, juxtaposed against a vast, open space. This interplay mirrors the complexities found in microbiology, where boundaries and free space coexist in harmony. (Source: Taurus Cornu Petit - What is art informal? podcast conversation)

Theme & Symbolism

The work "Repetitions and repetitions" is also another example of the already mentioned background/figure duality - form as repression. Shapeless signs that resemble wounds and soak up paint, repeating a single theme, enliven the screen printing technique of pop art, however, instead of a mechanical process, the manually inflicted wounds create a perforated membrane from the background, which produces permeable cuts in a ribbon-like manner - these distinguishing metaphysical trickles continue they continue the tradition of the dialectical movement of photorealism-abstraction primarily associated with Richter and Polke, and present a new version of the psychoanalytic dynamic of masking/sighting. The retro-fetishistic relationship between contemporary neo-abstraction and manual processes points to the post-production tendencies of abstract painting suffering from a lack of future vectors and critical imperatives[1], which alienates it from the community and banishes this aesthetic to an individual space-time. Alíz Menta Sipos takes advantage of this vulnerability to space-time - the conscious attraction to radical solitude and confinement, the nihilistic attitude gives release from the eternal cycle and escapes her works from dozens of abstracts that blindly apply Greenbergian-formalist principles. Theme & Symbolism

It is important for both the artwork and the artist to tap into their raw and authentic reality, free from logic and comprehension. We need to acknowledge that all these aspects exist within us simultaneously and embrace them in a secure environment. It may be our role to bridge the gap between our inner selves and others. I believe that beyond our sophisticated communication efforts, we also require raw, unfiltered encounters. Informal painting, with its abstract expression in creation and reception, serves as a powerful conduit for this profound connection, allowing for direct and unmediated engagement.

The concept of freedom of the press extends to freedom of art as well. Does art abide by restrictions on expression? Can artistic form restrict what needs to be conveyed in a different context? What boundaries govern the transfer of ideas into print? These questions challenge the confines of verbal communication.
